Orenthal James Simpson is an American former football running back, and actor. In 1994, he was convicted guilty of killing Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. In a civil trial, Simpson was found accountable for both deaths despite being cleared of the murders in criminal court.

Simpson played professional football for 11 seasons, mainly with the Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers. He amassed more than 2,000 yards of running in a season for the first time in the NFL in 1973.

He currently holds the record for the highest yards per game average in a single season at 143.1. In 1985, Simpson received a Pro Football Hall of Fame honor He started new professions as an actor and a broadcaster after leaving the sport of football.

Simpson was arrested and accused of killing his ex-wife and her friend in 1994. A jury found him not guilty following a lengthy and well-reported trial.

In 1997, he was punished with a $33.5 million judgment for the victims’ unjustified deaths by a civil court. To avoid paying the responsibility judgment, Simpson moved to Miami, Florida, in 2000.

Simpson was arrested in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2007 and accused of kidnapping and armed robbery. He was found guilty in 2008 and given a sentence of 33 years in jail, including at least nine years without the possibility of release.

The minimal sentence for Simpson was given on July 20, 2017, and he was granted parole. He was freed from jail on October 1, 2017, the day he was due to be eligible for parole.
