Neil Ellwood Peart was the full name of Neil Peart. He was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada September 12, 1952, and first lived on the family dairy farm, near Hagersville. Later, his family moved to nearby St. Catharines, studying with local teacher Don George, and then played in a succession of rock bands.

Peart went for drums classes at the age of 13. Peart returned to Canada early ’70s and located out that the up-and-coming band Rush, who had just Bound Up touring behind their debut album, was trying a new drummer. Peart was granted a tryout and was immediately given the nod to join and they formed as the trio that also included singer/bassist Geddy Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson sought to expand on their musical direction.

In addition to serving as Rush’s primary lyricist, Peart also published several memoirs about his travels. Peart wrote a total of seven nonfiction books focused on his travels and personal stories.  Peart announced that he is going to retire from music in an interview with Drumhead Magazine On December 7, 2015, the bandmate Geddy Lee insisted Peart to quite out of context and told Peart to take a break. However, in January 2018, bandmate Alex Lifeson confirmed that Rush was retiring Thanks to Peart’s health issues.

In 1997 on August 10 his first and only daughter Selena Taylor died in a car accident near the town Of Brighton Ontario. 10 months later on June 20, 1998, Peart’s common-law wife, Jacqueline Taylor was diagnosed with cancer and she died. On 9th September 2000, he married photographer Carrie Nuttall and had a child in 2009 named Oliva Louise.
