Kanhaiya Kumar Wiki, Wife, Salary, Age, Images, Biography: Kanhaiya Kumar is a student leader turned Indian politician. He is the former president of Jawaharlal Nehru University students Union and also the National leader of the All India Students Federation (AISF). At present he is the National Executive Council member of the Communist Party of India.
Kanhaiya Kumar Biography
Kanhaiya Kumar was born in the village Bihat near Barauni in Begusarai district, Bihar in January 1987. He was born in an upper-caste Bhumihar community in Bihar. His village is a part of the Tegra legislative assembly constituency known to be a stronghold of the Communist Party of India. His father Jaishankar Singh had an acre of farmland and now he is paralyzed because of stroke. His mother Menna Devi is an Anganwadi worker. He has an elder brother Manikant, who works as a supervisor with a company in Assam.
He studied till class VI at Madhya Vidyala, Masnadpur in Bihar before joining R.K.C high school in Barauni, an industrial town in Bihar. He completed his class X board exams in 2002 with a first division. Later he joined Ram Ratan Singh College at Mokama and did his degree in geography from the College Of Commerce, Arts and Science, Patna in 2007 earning a “first-class”. He completed his PhD in African studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University in 2019.
Kanhaiya Kumar Career
He involved into student politics while he was at the College of Commerce. He joined the AISF and a year later was selected as a delegate at its conference in Patna. He did his PG with an MA in sociology from Nalanda Open University in Patna and secured a first-class. Later he moved to Delhi and after ranking first in the JNU entrance exam in 2011 and he studied PhD in African studies at the School of international studies.
In 2015 September, Kanhaiya Kumar became the first AISF member to become president of the JNU students’ union, defeating the AISA (All India Students Association), ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad), SFI (Student’s Federation of India) and NSUI (National Students Union Of India) candidates. Kumar’s autobiography Bihar to Tihar was published in October 2016.
Kanhaiya Kumar Controversies
Kanhaiya Kumar was arrested by the Delhi police on 12th February 2016 a case was registered against him on 13 February. He was charged over an event organized by some students at the Jawaharlal Nehru University against the hanging of Afzal Guru. On 10 March 2016, Kamlesh Narwana, Ex JNU student unveiled an unsigned University order dated 16 October 2015, according to which, Kanhaiya Kumar was fined by the JNU administration last year for “misbehaving” with a girl student and “threatening” her.
In 2019 General Elections Kumar contested from Begusarai on the Communist Party of India’s ticket. He lost the election, polling a total of 2, 69,976 votes and 22.03% of vote share. He secured a distant second position after losing to Giriraj Singh of BJP by 4, 22,217 votes. About his defeat, he told in an interview, “I didn’t have anything directly to lose in these elections. I got support from the people for fighting against big, rich and influential machinery and this is a message from democracy that a son of an Anganwadi worker can contest elections.”
