Kl Rahul was born in Mangalore on 18th April 1992 his parents are K.N. Lokesh and Rajeshwari. His father is a professor and former director at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka and his mother is also a professor at Mangalore University. His father Lokesh is the fan of the cricketer Sunil Gavaskar.

Rahul did his schooling in Mangalore and started playing cricket from the age of 11. After that, he moved to Bangalore and studied at Jain University and learned his cricket Career. He played his 1st international cricket in the year 2014 Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
