David Stern is an American businessman and lawyer. He worked as the ‘National Basketball Association’ (NBA) the Fourth commissioner. David Joel Stern was the full name of David Joel and was born in New York City, US, On September 22, 1942. his parents are Anna and William Stern. His family owned a delicatessen in the middle of the city where they used to see cooked meat and cheese among other food products. After his birth, his family moved to Teaneck, New Jersey. He enrolled at the ‘Teaneck High School’. He worked at his father’s delicatessen for part-time and learned how to run a Business which became helpful in his career later. He was never interested in basketball or sports even he built a career in sports administration.

David when he was hired as an outside counsel for the law firm ‘Proskauer, Rose, Goetz and Mendelsohn it was a law firm that legally represents the leagues intersects. He first started working with ‘NBA’ in 1966; it was a big opportunity as it was his first major job. He was also appointed as a lead attorney by the firm to represent the ‘NBA’ in the famous Robertson vs NBA case. Former star player Oscar Robertson brought that case upon the league. David stopped that by settling the issue in 1976 when the ‘NBA’/ ‘ABA’ merger was accepted in return for the abolishment of the clause that did not allow the players to be free agents.

By the starting of 1980, he quickly grew within the organization. He when serving as the executive vice president of the ‘NBA’ he made many bold decisions that changed the outlook of the league for good.
