Adam Copeland Biography, Height, Family, Networth & More

Biography of Adam Copeland

Adam Copeland is a professional wrestler and actor from Canada. He is presently contracted to WWE and works under the ring name Edge on the Raw brand.

In the 1990s, he wrestled professionally under the ring name Sexton Hardcastle. He practiced in a boxing ring with a firmer mat than a regular wrestling ring throughout his wrestling training. Among his students were Johnny Swinger, Joe E. Legend, and Rob Echeverria. In 1996, Copeland wrestled briefly as Damian Striker (on-screen as Damon Striker) in an episode of WCW Pro.

On May 10, 1996, Copeland stepped in for Bob Holly’s opponent in the opening bout of a WWF house event in Hamilton, Ontario. He began working for the WWF without an official contract, earning $210 per week. In the summer of 1997, following a Grand Prix Wrestling tour, De Marco encouraged Copeland to fly to Calgary, where Hart was instructing wrestlers on the side.

At a Shotgun taping, he battled and beat Christian Cage in his first match after training. WWE introduced Edge as a heel character in 1998, and he made his debut on the June 22, 1998, edition of Raw when Michael Copeland finished his wrestling training.

Edge’s first broadcast bout was against Jose Estrada, Jr., and it was called off due to a count-out after he attempted a somersault senton from the ring to the outside. He won his first pay-per-view match at SummerSlam as Sable’s mystery tag team partner against Jacqueline and Marc Mero, slamming Sable into Mero in a pinning position.

Edge beat Vader in Vader’s final broadcast WWF battle on the October 11 episode of Sunday Night Heat[39], and Edge faced Tiger Ali Singh at WWF Capital Carnage.

Edge won his first singles championship, the WWF Intercontinental Championship, on July 24, 1999, in a house event in Toronto, Ontario, defeating Jeff Jarrett. Edge competed in the 30-man Royal Rumble match at the Royal Rumble and was eliminated by Road Dogg.

Edge was then paired with the vampire wrestler Gangrel in a rivalry. During the feud, Gangrel enlisted the help of Christian, Edge’s narrative brother, as an ally. The Brood was eventually kidnapped and transformed into The Undertaker’s Ministry of Darkness.

Edge and Christian took part in an 8-team battle royal at Armageddon, which was won by The Acolytes. Al Snow and Val Venis knocked Edge out of the Royal Rumble bout. His feud with Gangrel resulted in the birth of the Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match. Edge and Christian had success as a villainous team, winning the WWF Tag Team Championship six more times.

During this period, their hallmark became the “five-second stance,” in which they did a five-second position in the ring “for the advantage of those with flash photography” to tease, taunt, or otherwise entertain the crowd.

Edge and Christian competed in the first three TLC bouts as a team, winning the first two against The Dudley Boyz and The Hardy Boyz at SummerSlam in 2000 and then again at WrestleMania X-Seven.

They failed in their bid to reclaim the tag team title against The Dudley Boyz and Brothers of Destruction at No Way Out. They reclaimed the tag belts at Armageddon, only to lose them eight days later to The Rock and The Undertaker.

Edge won the 2001 King of the Ring competition and rose to prominence after siding with the WWF during the Invasion storyline. In the inaugural WWF Draft Lottery, he was picked to the SmackDown! Brand and began clashing with Booker T and William Regal.

During this period, Edge adopted Rob Zombie’s Never Gonna Stop (The Red Red Kroovy) as his new entrance music. Edge debuted in WWE in 2004 and quickly developed a feud with Kurt Angle, culminating in him shaving his opponent’s head on Judgment Day.

He subsequently joined a tag team with Rey Mysterio and competed in a tournament for the newly minted and unique to SmackDown! WWE Tag Team Championship. They were defeated in the tournament finals at No Mercy by Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit; the bout was named Match of the Year by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

In November 2002, Edge and Chris Benoit won the WWE Tag Team Championship. At Survivor Series, they lost the championship to Los Guerreros in a triple threat elimination match that also included former champions Angle and Benoit.

Edge was fired from television in February 2003 after a backstage attack at No Way Out. He had neck surgery and was out of commission for nearly a year.

On March 22, 2004, Edge was picked to the Raw brand in the 2004 WWE draft lottery. Edge and Chris Benoit defeated Batista and Ric Flair to win the World Tag Team Championship on April 19, 2004. Edge was a member of Team Triple H during Survivor Series, along with Triple H, Batista, and Gene Snitsky.

Edge and Chris Benoit battled in a battle royal as number one contenders. However, they eliminated each other at the end of the bout. As a result, Triple H was forced to defend the championship against Edge and Benoit in a triple threat match.

This bout similarly ended in a tie when Benoit forced Edge to submit while the referee counted a pinfall for Edge. The World Heavyweight championship was relinquished the next week on Raw. Later that night, Edge fought in the Royal Rumble match, where he made it to the final three before being eliminated by Batista and John Cena.

At WrestleMania 21, Edge won the first-ever Money in the Bank ladder match. He was subsequently matched with his real-life lover at the time, Lita, in an angle in which she betrayed her narrative spouse Kane.

Edge began a feud with Kane, which resulted in multiple battles between them. On the July 25 edition of Raw, Edge won a stretcher match, but immediately after, Kane executed a tombstone piledriver on Lita and subsequently abducted her in an ambulance. Edge and Matt Hardy’s feud began on the July 11 edition of Raw, when Hardy appeared and addressed Edge by his true name.

Edge then arrived and overwhelmed Hardy, trapping his head between the steel stairs and the ring post before kicking the steel steps into Hardy’s head. The feud concluded on Raw Homecoming on October 3, with Edge winning a Loser Leaves Raw ladder match.

After the match, Hardy departed the Raw brand to join SmackDown! While Edge sustained a torn pectoralis major muscle that sidelined him for many months. Edge won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship after defeating John Cena at New Year’s Revolution.

Edge celebrated his victory the next night on Raw by having “hot, uncontrolled sex” with Lita in the middle of the ring. The piece received a 5.2 rating from Raw, the highest in almost a year. Edge retained the WWE Championship by defeating Ric Flair in a TLC match on January 16. Edge lost the belt to Cena at the Royal Rumble.

Edge beat Mick Foley at WrestleMania 22 by spearing him through a burning table, however, he sustained second-degree burns since anti-flame material was not added to the table at the request of both wrestlers.

Edge then lost a rematch on the February 16 episode of Raw and blamed it on special guest referee Mick Foley, accusing him of prejudice and striking him. Foley retaliated against Edge by attacking him with a con-chair-to.

Edge challenged John Cena for the WWE Championship again after his war with Foley. Triple H and Cena had a feud, which culminated in a triple threat match at Backlash, in which Cena pinned Triple H to retain the championship.

Edge made his WWE debut at ECW’s June pay-per-view event ECW One Night Stand when he teamed with Foley and Lita to beat Dreamer, Terry Funk, and Beulah McGillicutty.

Edge pinned Van Dam in a triple-threat match on the July 3 edition of Raw after blindsiding Cena with the title belt to become WWE Champion for the second time.

Edge’s animosity with Cena was reignited as a result of this angle, and he was disqualified from Saturday Night’s Main Event XXXIII in order to keep the championship. Edge defended his championship at SummerSlam by pinning Cena after hitting him in the back of the head with a pair of brass knuckles when the referee smacked him on the head.

On the October 2 edition of Raw, Edge teamed up with Randy Orton to beat D-Generation X (D-X). Rated-RKO beat D-X on November 5 with Eric Bischoff as the special guest referee. Lita retired the next month, and her on-screen romance with Edge ended abruptly.

Ratified-Rko joined up with Johnny Nitro, Mike Knox, and Gregory Helms to fight Team D-x at Survivor Series on November 26 but was defeated in a clean sweep. Edge was a member of Rated-World RKO’s Tag Team Championship defense against D-X in January 2007, however, the event was called off due to an injury to Triple H.

Edge competed in the 30-man Royal Rumble match, where he lasted the longest with a length of 44 minutes. Edge and Randy Orton became competitors in their quest for the WWE Championship in April 2007.

Edge is the first person in the ladder match to win the Money in the Bank contract twice and the first person to lose it both times. He had to give up the World Heavyweight Championship owing to a legitimately torn pectoral muscle sustained during an attack by Kane.

Edge subsequently launched a feud with Batista, defending his championship against him at Judgment Day and One Night Stand. Edge made his WWE debut on November 18, 2007, at Survivor Series, when he interfered in a World Heavyweight Championship contest between Batista and The Undertaker. On November 30, he made his official SmackDown! Debut against Batista.

The next day, he proposed to Vickie Guerrero, who accepted. Edge won his second World Heavyweight Championship at Armageddon by pinning defending champion Batista (who had previously been Tombstoned by Undertaker) in a Triple Threat match. This organization was later known as La Familia (Spanish for “The Family”).

Edge was defeated by The Undertaker for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XXIV in March. On May 23, Vickie Guerrero added a clause stating that if the Undertaker loses, he will be kayfabe banned from the WWE.

Edge would win the championship at One Night Stand on June 1 because he had lost. Batista knocked Edge out with the Batista Bomb in June before CM Punk cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and won the championship.

Edge wedded Vickie Guerrero on July 4 and informed her the wedding was canceled until she saved him from The Big Show’s con-chair-to. On July 18, at the wedding reception, Triple H played a video showing Edge cheating on Guerrero with the wedding planner, Alicia Fox, the day before. Edge replaced Jeff Hardy in a Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship at Survivor Series, which also included champion Triple H and Vladimir Kozlov.

He pinned Triple H to win the WWE Championship for the third time. Edge turned on La Familia in August and threw Vickie out of her wheelchair, ultimately disbanding the faction.

Edge was selected in the 2010 WWE draft for the Raw brand, where he began a feud with Randy Orton. He called the SmackDown crowd “puppets” for shouting for him and afterward attempted a surprise assault on his old tag team teammate, Christian, turning heel once more. Edge lost the World Heavyweight Championship to Chris Jericho in a surprise attack at WrestleMania XXVI after turning face for the first time since 2004.

Edge and Randy Orton had a feud that started on the 900th episode of Raw. Much of the animosity arose from Orton’s unwillingness to re-form Rated-RKO with Edge, who wanted to reclaim the tag team titles he had lost.

Edge did not successfully defend his WWE Championship at Fatal 4-Way or Money in the Bank. After breaking the Anonymous Raw General Manager’s computer and turning face, Edge was traded from Raw to SmackDown for CM Punk. Edge beat Jack Swagger at Survivor Series on October 3 to become the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship.

Edge tormented Paul Bearer the next week, making him play dodgeball and force-feeding him in order to tire out Kane. Edge failed to capture the Survivor Series championship as the referee declared the fight a tie owing to both men pinning each other at the same moment.

On December 19, 2010, Edge beat Kane, Rey Mysterio, and Alberto Del Rio to win the World Heavyweight Championship. On January 30, 2011, he successfully defended his championship against Dolph Ziggler at the Royal Rumble.

In the storyline, on February 18, acting General Manager Guerrero dismissed Edge and handed the World Heavyweight Championship to her on-screen lover Ziggler. On the March 11 edition of SmackDown, Edge and Christian briefly reunited to beat Del Rio and his bodyguard Brodus Clay. At WrestleMania XXVII, Edge successfully defended his championship against Del Rio.

Edge announced his retirement from WWE on April 11, 2011, citing cervical spinal stenosis. Doctors would not allow him to compete because of the possibility of neck-down paralysis or perhaps death if he fell hard.

During WrestleMania XXXIII weekend in March 2012, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Edge makes an unexpected cameo on Raw on April 23, 2012, addressing John Cena over Brock Lesnar. Edge made an appearance on September 21, 2012, to address Team Hell No.

Edge returns to anchor his talk program, The Cutting Edge, on September 9, 2013. Edge and Christian were seen playing their trademark kazoos following a dispute with Seth Rollins in a backstage segment on the September 7 episode of RAW.

They would subsequently get into a fight with The New Day and The Dudley Boyz. Edge insulted Randy Orton and watched as his attack on Daniel Bryan backfired on the September 13 edition of SmackDown. In the segment, Edge insulted Triple H, who reacted by sending The Shield to assault Edge’s friend Christian.

Edge and Christian began presenting The Cutting Edge on the WWE Network in 2016. A second season was finally broadcast. Edge and Christian first appeared on WWE television in February 2015 as guests at Fastlane alongside The New Day.

Edge presented a special edition of The Cutting Edge on November 15, 2016, featuring the men’s SmackDown Survivor Series squad as his guests. Edge attended the WWE Hall of Fame event in 2017 when his wife Beth Phoenix was honored.

Edge joined the Men’s Royal Rumble contest at the 2020 Royal Rumble to the show’s greatest applause. Before being eliminated by Roman Reigns, he eliminated three other competitors, including former partner Randy Orton.

Edge returned on January 25, 2021, after a seven-month sabbatical, and won by last eliminating Orton after entering first. Edge became the seventh man to win the match twice and the third to do it from the number one position with this triumph. Edge is the only person in history to win the Royal Rumble twice while losing both title battles at WrestleMania.

Edge returned to SmackDown on June 25 after a two-month absence, assaulting both Reigns and Jimmy Uso. Edge was unsuccessful in winning the championship at Money in the Bank due to intervention from Seth Rollins. Edge challenged Rollins to a SummerSlam bout on August 6, which Rollins accepted.

During the build to WrestleMania 38, Edge unveiled a new persona and entrance theme, The Other Side by Alter Bridge. Edge was ousted from WWE’s stable The Judgment Day owing to creative disputes, as the group wanted to become more “supernatural.” Edge is said to have sustained a non-displaced orbital floor fracture, which has yet to be confirmed as kayfabe or genuine.
