Y.S Jagan Mohan Reddy is the son of late Andhra Pradesh Cheif Minister and legendary politician Y.S. Raja Shekar Reddy. His mother’s name is Y.S Vijayamma. Jagan was born on 21st December 1972 at Jammalamadugu, Kadapa District, AP. He has one sister named Y.S Sharmila who actively supports him in political activities. Jagan’s father former AP Cheif Minister Y.S Rajashekar Reddy died in a Helicopter crash in 2009. He holds a Bachelors Degree in commerce.

Jagan Mohan Reddy is a follower of Christianity just like his father Y.S Raja Shekar Reddy and grandfather Raja Reddy. He is a member of the Church of South India (Rayalaseema). Jagan entered politicians following his father’s footsteps in 2004. Currently, he is serving as the 17th Cheif Minister of Andhra Pradesh State. He started his political career with Indian National Congress which was represented in AP by his father.
In 2004 elections, Jagan was elected as Member of Parliament from Kadapa Constituency. Post his father’s death, Jagan tried to take the legacy of his father and got the majority of legislators to appoint him as Chief Minister of the State. But, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi did not accept this proposal.
Later, in 2010, Jagan Mohan Reddy along with his mother and other supporters resigned Congress party. In December 2010, Jagan announced that he would start a new political party within 45 days. As said, he founded and announced his political party named Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRcp). In 2019, he won the majority seats and his party came into ruling in Andhra Pradesh.

In 2012, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) disclosed that Jagan has accepted that he has taken Rs. 1,172 crore as bribe from various investors. With the connection of corruption and illegal assets, Jagan was arrested on 27 May 2012. On 28 May 2012, CBI has remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days. Jagan was in Chanchalaguda Central Jail. He was arrested at remained at the jail for 16 months.
